How Much Captain America: Civil War Will Actually Use Spider-Man

The brand new live-action version of Spider-Man would be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War, but what has remained a question in the months since is the exact extent of the webslinger's role in the 2016 movie. Now it seems as though that information has been revealed, and sadly it's probably not what fans were hoping for or expecting. It turns out that Spidey's role in Civil War is actually pretty small.

This interesting information was dropped in Variety's piece about the casting of Tom Holland as the Marvel Studios' incarnation of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man. The report goes over the the long path Marvel and Sony took to find the right actor to play the new version of the wall-crawler, and added in information about the size of the part he will actually have in Captain America: Civil War. According to the trade's sources, the reason why the casting process was allowed to take so long is because Spider-Man is "only expected to have a cameo" in the star-studded blockbuster, and will only be needed for about a week on set.

Surely there will be a lot of comic book fans who are disappointed by this turn of events, if not only because Spider-Man plays such an important role in the Civil War comics that the movie is being based on. That being said, this new info does make sense from a logical perspective. For starters, the third Captain America movie has been filming for weeks now, and if Spidey had a large role to play, he probably would have had to be there from the start of production. Secondly, the character was only announced as being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe a few months ago, and the film has been in the works for more than a year. Lastly, we can't forget that the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed feature has an absolutely gigantic cast as it is, and it was always going to be a challenge for the friendly neighborhood superhero to compete for screentime with Chris Evans' Captain America, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, and many others.

Fans also shouldn't be disheartened by this news if not only because it really won't be that long until Tom Holland's Spider-Man gets the spotlight all to himself. Marvel Studios has scheduled a brand new Spider-Man solo movie for 2017, with Jon Watts attached to direct, and if all goes according to plan, that project will start rolling cameras next year. So if you're still feeling a Spidey deficiency in your cinematic diet after Captain America: Civil War, you'll just have to wait a little bit longer to be satisfied.

Captain America: Civil War is currently filming down in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be heading to a theater near you on May 6, 2016.

A Gambit Cameo In X-Men: Apocalypse? Channing Tatum Just Said This

Recently the solo Gambit film starring Channing Tatum is moving forward with Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt. But before he tackles his own adventure, word on the street — and word from Tatum himself — was that the card-slinging X-Man would first appear in next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. The actor recently updated us on the matter, however, and things aren’t looking good on that front.

Tatum participated in a Reddit AMA to support his campaign for the Runa Foundation. If fans donated to support this organization, which looks to establish clinics and research facilities dedicated to Amazonian plant medicine, they would be in the running to attend the Magic Mike XXL premiere with Tatum and the boys. During the chat, the actor was asked whether Gambit would pop up in X-Men: Apocalypse, to which he replied,

When plans for Tatum’s role as Gambit were first announced, the goal was for him to appear first in the next big X-Men team-up film, if only in a cameo stint. The updates that followed supported this, especially a casting call that went out for Apocalypse. Calltime, LLC, a casting agency, put the word out for character actors and background players in Quebec, and it also included a description of the film that included Tatum’s name among the cast. Whether this information was wrong or has changed over time, the actor was pretty straightforward about this matter.

It does contradict his earlier statements, though. A mere two months ago, Tatum told MTV that, while he wasn’t at liberty to say, he believed the plan was to have Gambit in Apocalypse. He also stipulated that he didn’t want to introduce him until he and the filmmakers could really explain who this guy is.

Channing Tatum has been talking about playing Gambit for quite some time. The mutant has the ability to change potential energy (an object’s stored energy) into kinetic energy (the energy of motion), often times resulting in the transformation of everyday objects into explosives. His most commonly used weapon is a deck of playing cards he keeps on his person and throws out like grenades. Taylor Kitsch was the first actor to portray the character on the big screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Gambit marks one of Fox’s major moves in the post-Apocalypse movie universe. With Wyatt at the helm, Josh Zetumer on script duties, and Tatum and Reid Carolin on as producers with longtime X-Men movie collaborators Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, the film will be ready for an October 7, 2016 release. The studio is also developing X-Men films for Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds, an X-Force movie with Kick-Ass’s Jeff Wadlow on board, and the recently announced New Mutants movie.

Wolverine Confirmed To Appear In X-Men: Apocalypse

It’s been a question in recent weeks whether or not Hugh Jackman would be appearing in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. It now looks like we do have confirmation that Wolverine will be in the new film, thanks to an Instagram photo from a leather goods manufacturer in New York.

While the photo was posted a month ago, the folks over at X Men Films just unearthed the Instagram shot from KikaNY Leather Goods, who have been asked to make a custom duffel bag for Hugh Jackman for use on the Apocalypse set. It sounds like the bag is for Jackman’s personal use, though it’s possible the bag is actually for Wolverine and will appear in the film. If Hugh Jackman’s new bag is going to be in Montreal during filming, then it stands to reason that Jackman himself will also be there. It’s called the associative property of entertainment news.

While we already knew many of the actors and characters who would be appearing in the upcoming film, confirmation on Wolverine’s appearance was strangely missing through it all. This answer comes on the heels of learning that Channing Tatum, who will be starring in a standalone Gambit movie (now that he finally has a director) will not have a role in Apocalypse to set up the film.

Green Lantern Reboot Could Have More Than One Green Lantern

Warner Bros.’ first attempt at a Green Lantern film in 2011 didn’t go well, but the studio is giving DCs Emerald Knight another chance in 2020 with a reboot taking place within the DC Cinematic Universe. Aside from the film’s announcement, we know nothing about what to expect from the new film, and the main question on all our minds is, who will wield the power ring? Now we might have the answer, and oddly enough, it may be that the movie will not feature just one construct-creating hero, but several.

Although the reboot is still early in development, anonymous sources have told Collider that rather than aim the spotlight on just one ring slinger, Green Lantern could focus on two or even three of the human emerald heroes - with Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner being the main players. This focus on multiple Lanterns would continue in future franchise installments, making these films more about the Green Lantern Corps than just one Lantern. The article also mentions that it’s possible Warner Bros will introduce at least one of the Green Lanterns next month at San Diego Comic-Con, which ideally would also be the time when they confirm whether one of the Lanterns will appear in the Justice League films.

In the comics, Hal Jordan was the first human recruited by the Green Lantern Corps after he inherited his ring from the dying alien Abin Sur. After Hal was injured in action, Guy Gardner was given the ring and became Earth’s backup Green Lantern. And when Guy was out of commission, John Stewart was chosen as the new replacement. Nowadays, all three of them wield their rings concurrently, though Guy is also pulling double duty as a Red Lantern. Other human Green Lanterns have included Alan Scott (whose ring was not from the Green Lantern Corps, but instead based in magic), Kyle Rayner, Jade and Simon Baz.

From this report, it sounds as though the reboot will eschew the traditional origin story approach that 2011’s Green Lantern had in favor of the Green Lantern mythos being established and Sector 2814 under the protection of Lanterns from Earth. As the article points out, the plan right now is to just focus on the human ring holders, but later on down the line, maybe this could lead to expanded roles for alien Lanterns. The Green Lantern Corps is 7200 strong, so there will be plenty of opportunities in sequels to introduce fellow space cops from other areas of the universe. This is DC’s opportunity to get deep into their cosmic material. As for the men, what could be an interesting approach is if two of the Lanterns have been active for years, and in the film the third is bequeathed their ring and the other guys show him the ropes. That way we have both pros and a newbie.

The Green Lantern reboot will hit theaters on June 19, 2020.

Paul Rudd Embraces His Inner Child in Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Paul Rudd enters the Marvel Cinematic Universe as its latest hero in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” come July 17!
As Scott Lang, Rudd dons the Ant-Man helmet to help Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) pull off a daring heist with the world at stake. While the star was filming his debut Marvel adventure last year, we visited the set to chat with him about his role, both on and off screen.
Rudd doesn’t just star in the film—he also served as one of its writers, working closely with his longtime collaborator Adam McKay off a story by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. But while Rudd and McKay are typically known for their comedic work together, they didn’t want “Ant-Man” to play as strictly a comedy.

“As far as the tone, I think some of that is always discovered in post,” elaborates Rudd. “Adam and I, at least from a filmmaking point of view, love to do lots of different versions of things and takes. When we've been working together in the past on ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,’ we're doing lots of alts and jokes and things like that. I think our default is to go to comedy, though Adam is way better at it and much funnier than I am. He's the best I've ever seen.  But, the tone of [‘Ant-Man’], in [terms of] what we were trying to write and what we were doing, was not a comedy per se. I think it fit more in line with what people have come to expect from these films. “And Adam certainly is passionate about Marvel and comics, I mean, he grew up reading all of them. He spoke the language anyway.  It will have funny parts in it, [but] sometimes you take them out because you don't want to diminish the drama or the action. It isn’t ‘Anchorman.’ You would think that it would be a very silly, joke-heavy movie, and it's really not.  But there are moments of levity. We are dealing with ants here after all.”
Taking on the character of Ant-Man allowed Rudd to explore a different role and type of film than he’d ever done before.
“You wouldn't [necessarily] think of me first for this kind of thing,” the actor admits. “My career took a left turn after ‘Anchorman.’ I had done some comedies before, but I'm not a comedian. I didn't study sketch comedy, my background isn't that. It just happened that I worked with those guys and loved it and continued to work with a lot of comics after the fact. But I like to do lots of different things, so [this] didn't seem so crazy to me. It did feel different. It certainly felt like, wow, this is the big leagues. I've never done a movie with this big of a budget.”

Working on a film as big as “Ant-Man” also involves a good deal of work with green screens, but though Rudd hadn’t done much in that area before, he quickly learned the secret to making it work. “You just imagine what it would be like and then you just pretend,” explains Rudd. “It's that kind of thing that you hear other actors talk about in interviews, where I had to wear a suit with ping-pong balls on it and talk to a big tape mark and imagine that there's something there.
“It's a very specific kind of feeling stupid,” laughs Rudd. “Acting in general, you just feel kind of stupid doing it anyway.  But when you're pretending to be rolling around and dodging a foot or riding an ant, you're having to really do it seriously and there's nothing there. [You’ve] got to put faith in the process, [with] the greatest, the best most talented people are working on this thing.
“At its core it's just believing the situation and throwing yourself into it wholeheartedly, trying not to be self conscious or judge what it is that you're doing. That's always a challenge. But it's also fun, this is really fun stuff.  Later on today I'm going to be hanging out of a helicopter and pretend like I'm flapping around, then ants are holding onto a seatbelt, and taken out of context, that's just ridiculous. But it's also the kind of thing that we all did when we were five years old and were playing in our living room. I used to play Starsky and Hutch with my sister, and I’d be hanging on the back of a van. We all believe it when we're kids, it's just holding onto that, I guess.”
The film opens with Scott getting out of jail after several years, and though he’s made some bad decisions in the past he’s now looking to get his life back on track.
“Maybe some of his choices that he makes with his life are questionable,” suggests Rudd. “Maybe the motives are honorable, um, or maybe they're not.  Some people don't think they are. But I think that he's somebody that cares about his daughter. That's the motivating factor for some of the choices that he makes.  Certainly in the comics, that's his story. I think he's a smart guy who maybe has to reevaluate what's really important in his life and what kind of person he wants to be.”

“Ant-Man” pairs Rudd with Michael Douglas, who plays the suit’s inventor, Hank Pym. Rudd relished working with such a legendary actor for the first time. “It’s just been amazing,” the actor proclaims. “The last time I saw him a few days ago, all he did was tell me stories about ‘Streets of San Francisco.’ I mean, what a great way to spend your day at work. I have worked with some incredible actors, legends, I feel like the best that there are, I don't know how it happened. Paul Newman played my grandfather in a play that I did, and it was a similar kind of thing, where it takes me a little bit of time to just calm down. Hopefully it's just a few days where I can get to the point where I just feel like, all right, it's cool, we're hanging out, and that I can then ask them some stories. Or tips, things like, things like that.
“It's been great working with him. He's such a good actor. He's a producer [as well, so] he approaches story and character and the making of a movie from all kinds of angles.  The gravitas that he brings to everything, it just feels like ohm this is the big leagues. I'm playing in the big leagues now. That's what it can be like.”

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Find Their 'Spider-Man' Star and Director

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.  The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director.  The studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s performances in "The Impossible," “Wolf Hall,” and the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," and by a series of complex screen tests.  Following Marvel’s tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.

Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, “It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job.  The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding.  I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception.  I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent.  For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special.   All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life.  We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world.  With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Sony Pictures will finance and release worldwide the next installment of the $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017, in a film co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the Web-Slinger.

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

'Fast and Furious 8' : Eva Mendes and Kurt Russell added to the team

YOUTUBE / UNIVERSAL
Since the death of "The Fast and Furious" lead actor Paul Walker in 2013, fans have believed that the seventh film would be the last of the long running series. While it is true that one of the key players of the franchise can no longe reprise his role, new reports claim that the eight installment of the franchise is on its way.
"The Fast and Furious" has come a long way since it premiered in 2001, with the storyline revolving around "street racing and heists". With its mix of high-speed racing and action, the films are highly regarded as Universal Picture's largest franchise, especially with the blockbuster premiere of the eighth movie.
"The Fast and Furious" is reported to be adding a couple of new celebrities for the upcoming eighth installment. Among the most exciting inclusions is Eva Mendes. There is speculation that Eva's character, Monica Fuentes, will have a lot more backstory, as it has been reported that she might get in the way of the romance between Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez).
The new film will also see the return of Kurt Russell as Mr. Nobody. Russell was included in the cast for 'Fast and Furious 7' and reports claim that Mr. Nobody will not be featured in the upcoming movie, but in the possible 'Fast & Furious 9' movie.
As reported earlier by Ecumenical News, Vin Diesel had stated that Mr. Nobody (Russell) is one of his favorite characters in the franchise to date, and the addition of Russell would be a huge advantage for the upcoming film.
Aside from Mendes and Russell, the film has also added MMA fighters Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Rousey was also seen in 'Fast & Furious 7', while it will be the first acting role for Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who is currently the 'UFC Women's Straw weight Champion'.

Fast And Furious 8

Kurt RussellMovies that earn more than $1 billion worldwide tend to produce sequels. As such, Furious 8 was a no-brainer. Yet, the ridiculously lucrative Furious 7, ended with real closure, and raised some burning questions. Can the series continue following the death of Paul Walker? Should the series tell more stories in the lives of these now iconic screen characters, or is it time to let the Fast & Furious crew drive off into the sunset on one of the highest notes in franchise history?

That conversation is ongoing, but at least we have a definitive answer. Vin Diesel took to the stage of CinemaCon recently and confirmed that Fast & Furious 8 is happening, and will reach theaters on April 14, 2017. It’s definitely happening! But there remain a ton of questions about who will be involved both in front of and behind the camera. Let’s dig in to all that we already know about the upcoming Fast & Furious sequel:

The Kurt Russell Connection
It bears repeating that Furious 7 always was going to be the start of a new trilogy of Fast films, though that plan was changed once Paul Walker died. James Wan confirmed that the original ending of Furious 7 would have led to new stories. But the first real hint we got about Fast & Furious 8 came when Vin Diesel appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show and revealed that supreme badass Kurt Russell was added to part seven as a tease for what the crew wanted to do in part eight. And Vin spoke in the present tense, saying that Russell’s covert character, Mr. Nobody, would be a catalyst for events that would follow through in Fast & Furious 8. Now, Walker likely was going to be part of that adventure, and now will not be. But that doesn’t mean the show can’t go on.

The Rock
The New York Setting
In the same clip, Vin Diesel dropped the interesting nugget that the crew would shift their mission for (or against) Mr. Nobody to the streets of New York City. Which, in my opinion, is fantastic. The Fast & Furious movies always have been an L.A.-based franchise, and Diesel delivered on his promise to return the series to Southern California with Furious 7. But a series that has stopped in so many amazing global cities has yet to invade the Big Apple, and I want to see Toretto’s crew try to stay fast in midtown Manhattan traffic. (The "furious" part won’t be difficult. New Yorkers are always mad about something.) In a recent conversation, The Rock told the media that they wanted to give Furious 7 time to breathe, and to succeed, but that they were "up for the challenge" of doing Furious 8. And Diesel chimed in that F8 sounds like "Fate," something he said Walker always believed.

Justin Lin
Justin Lin’s Return
James Wan was an unusual choice to helm Furious 7 after Justin Lin decided not to come back after directing multiple Fast films. Wan primarily was known as a horror guy, and his lone foray into "action" – the Kevin Bacon drama Death Sentence -- went largely unseen. It’s very possible that Wan could come back to direct a Fast & Furious 8, especially given the success of Furious 7. But a few months back, a story broke on Deadline that Lin would return to the series to direct a multi-part finale. Wan even said in a recent interview that Justin Lin would be the perfect choice to bring the series to a close. This plan still could be in place, though Lin is about to board the U.S.S. Enterprise as the director of Star Trek 3, so Universal might have to put their red-hot series on ice for a bit if they want to wait or Lin’s services. Would that be a good idea?

Lucas Black
Lucas Black’s Contract
Those paying attention to the Fast & Furious timeline synch couldn’t have been that surprised to see Lucas’ Black’s Tokyo Drift hero, Sean Boswell, return to the screen. Furious 6 revealed that Han was killed by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), so Dom pitstopped to Tokyo to meet with Sean, get information on this new threat, and bring Han’s body back to Los Angeles for a proper burial. At the time, Black revealed that he had signed up for Fast & Furious parts 7, 8 and 9. Again, plans for the series seem fluid, but if Black was a part of the future story before, I see no reason to think he couldn’t be part of the next two chapters, at least. Drift on!

Eva Mendes
The Eva Mendes Rumor
So far, the Fast & Furious films have made a habit out of bringing familiar faces back into the fold. Michelle Rodriguez was believed to be dead before returning for Fast & Furious 6. We just mentioned Lucas Black, and his presence in Furious 7. So with the timeline realigned now, it makes sense that a recent rumor suggests the return of Eva Mendes’s character, U.S. Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, be brought back into the story. As we learned in Furious 7, Dom and his crew now runs in criminal circles that involve the federal government – or, shadow arms of the government operated by the likes of Mr. Nobody. This could open up several doors for the Furious crew to either have to help Fuentes… or avoid her. Maybe the God’s Eye MacGuffin from the latest movie will put Toretto on Fuentes’ radar? Maybe Mr. Nobody has a new job for Dom? I think Fast & Furious 8 will happen, particularly after Furious 7 just broke the bank. Do you?
